About

Learn more about your local history, the people, the Past and the Future with the Burghead and Hopeman Heritage Group.

The Burghead and Hopeman Heritage Group is for the local people and visitors to not only learn about the History and life in the local area, but to discover how this Moray Firth area and Moray in general has influenced people and places not only in Scotland, but throughout Great Britain and the whole World.

During the Winter Months, September to May inclusive, the Group usually meets in the Community Hall, Sellar Street entrance at 7pm on the last Monday of the Month, when we have a speaker, and sometimes a raffle to raise funds.

During the Summer months we have visits to various local places of interest, with a full day coach trip which is subsidised  in June, and includes not only a trip to a place of interest, but also a High tea. In the past we have visited Stirling Castle, Culloden, the Queen Mother’s home ‘The Castle of Mey’, and many other places.

Membership is £4 a year, with a £1 payment for each evening meeting a member attends, non-members pay £3 a meeting.

The Committee at the moment is:

  • James Main – Chairman
  • Bob Johnson – Vice Chairman
  • Iain Gosling – Treasurer
  • Angela Oatridge – Secretary
  • Other Committee members – Anne Milligan,  Janice Mackenzie, Frances Cantlie.
